MOODY YORKSHIRE DALES ELOPEMENT (UK WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY)

While the weather is still back and forth between storms and sun, I thought I’d share a recent moody elopement I shot out in the Yorkshire Dales. Proof that not all romantic vow exchanges need to be in Summer, in the sun, or even out of the UK. You can still adventure off into some stunning spots, whatever the weather, and have that dreamy elopement you always dreamed of. Plus, this is the stuff that Wedding Photographer’s dreams are made of.

We headed out into the Dales for an afternoon and shot three totally different locations. And at each of them, a lovely little pub wasn’t far away. I mean, what more could you want for a vow renewal? Stunning places, privacy, and adventure. And it’s just a bonus that these places sometimes look even more incredible with the moody weather; low lying clouds, mist, dew, wind, grey skies and darker light, all that lush green grass and moss against silvery rock.

HONESTLY, I ACTUALLY DIDN’T WANT A SUNNY DAY FOR THIS SHOOT. AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THESE SHOTS, WOULD YOU?

I hear so many couples and photographer’s who pray for sun on a wedding day. And often the logistics would benefit from the rain staying away. But never fear for your photos. Be willing to embrace the day for whatever it actually is.. get out in the rain with an umbrella, jump in the puddles, cuddle up in the wind.. Just trust your photographer and girls- for the love of god, stop worrying about mud on your dress.

MUD ON THE HEMS LOOKS BADASS, AND IT’S A REMINDER OF HOW INCREDIBLE IT FELT TO THROW CAUTION OUT THE WINDOW AND HAVE FUN.

I’ve often thought how ageist we are about love, photographing it, shouting about it, expressing it. Can we stop doing that? Can we celebrate anniversaries after the kids have all gone? Can we shoot vow renewals like this is wonderful places of your choosing? And what about those lovelies who don’t plan to marry, but want to celebrate and mark their relationship? Why can’t you get epic photos? And what if you were disappointed with your wedding photos? Why not renew your vows and have another go at them?

I’m going to put the kettle on, get the glutard biscuits out and wait for you all to get in touch with your ideas. Let’s plan awesome fun things to look forward to, and celebrate the loves in our lives NOW.
