I’m not sure where to start tbh. This wedding was packed with moments of laughter, anticipation and emotion, which is everything I could want to shoot. But because of the venues amazing layout and styling, it all happened in little pockets of perfect; a skylight in a hotel room; a grand table in a wooden panelled room; a shaft of light cast through the historic barn; a festoon lit grain store at dusk; a wall beautifully adorned with William Morris print. Seriously, the list goes on. And I love that these guys loved the venue for ALL THESE REASONS; they saw it all. They even asked me in their planning process, “what can we do to get the best photos and moments out of the day?” I mean, dream clients right!?
If you’ve read any number of my blog ramblings, you’ll know I’m obsessed with light. Not just golden hour light, but LIGHT in all it’s forms. On a winter’s day, I get full body goosebumps for the light after sunset. As the deep blue of dusk starts to edge nearer the horizon, all the building windows seem to light up and flicker with the life of the people inside. It’s a pretty small window of time too, too early and the sky is too light, too late and it’s just plain DARK. But man, when the crescent moon just happens to rise up above the historic grain store, you HAVE to sneak into the meal and drag the couple out. “Could you guys just, you know, dance there for a bit. Until you’re too cold?” I say it with a big knowing smile, and a few jokes, and somehow, these guys just trusted me and went for it.
Dave & Lizzie, you were an absolute dream to work with. Thank you so much for bringing me into such an epically cool and gorgeous day. Remember to call me when we can shoot a vow renewal ;)
