HOLY TRINITY BUOY! (COUPLE SESSION)
I’VE HAD A SUPER BUSY MONTH SINCE RETURNING TO THE UK, AND A JAM PACKED DIARY OF MEETINGS AND SHOOTS WITH LOADS OF MY COUPLES. SO MANY WICKED AND GORGEOUS PEOPLE; SO MANY CUPS OF TEA AND WEDDING CHATS; SO MANY BUZZING CAMERA HANGOUTS (AND SUPERMODELS IN THE MAKING) AND SO MANY SMILES ALL ROUND. SO OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, I’M GOING TO INUNDATE YOU WITH A FEW OF THESE SESSIONS. AREN’T YOU THE LUCKY ONES?!

My time on the blog this year has been much more sporadic. Don’t worry, I’ve noticed too. For two or three years I was obsessive about posting every week, and felt huge guilt if I missed a post or was late. This year, I prioritised other things, and although I miss amassing lots of lovely writing and photos here, I have achieved and learned so much in it’s place. Working for yourself, and by yourself is tough.
SO I’M BASICALLY GOING A BIT EASIER ON MYSELF THESE DAYS.
Right, first up for our couple session binge is Grant & Nat. We met up at their wedding venue, Trinity Buoy Wharf, which some of you may already know of. If you don’t, and you’re a Londoner, go check it out. It’s a pretty cool little place to explore. But to get married and/or to take photos? It’s a fricking dream. You’ve got that old London brickwork and industrial buildings; you’ve got super cool shipping container flats in multicolours; you’ve got a kick-ass London skyline as well as the Thames right there, you’ve got all the London urban feels with bags more space and less people.
SET UP A BAR, INVITE EVERYONE YOU LOVE AND YOU’VE BASICALLY GOT THE PERFECT WEDDING DAY, RIGHT?
For years there, I recoiled at the prospect of shooting in hard sunshine. I couldn’t bare it. But now I sort of love it; it forces me to look differently at spaces and people, and makes me shoot entirely differently. And urban spaces really really work for this. The architectural lines, the perspectives, the colours, the cool- it all works when in high contrast. It feels like shooting in black and white, but with splashes of colour.
Grant & Nat, like many of my couples, said they didn’t feel particularly confident about having their photo taken.
AND LOOK AT THEM, ABSOLUTELY SMASHING IT.
Thanks for wicked hang out guys. I’m dead excited to shoot your wedding now. I promise not to climb drainpipes and buildings when I come back next time *crosses fingers behind her back* ;)
