London Couple Photography
THIS WEEK WE FIND ANOTHER MAGICAL LOCATION, TO EASE ANOTHER AWESOME COUPLE INTO A PHOTO SESSION. SANDY & KATIE WERE ENTIRELY TRUSTING, AND REALLY FELL INTO THE ROMANTIC MOOD OF THE LOCATION. A CHURCH RUIN IN THE HEART OF LONDON? OH YES, IT REALLY DOES EXIST...
This place is no secret, but when first turn off the street and open the gate, it feels like you are the only person to ever see it. I arrived super early on a Sunday morning. On my walk there, the city streets were empty, and the sounds of cars passing were infrequent and distant. I clung to my take-away tea cup, headphones blaring, becoming less and less hopefully that this place actually existed. The area was back to back high rises, how on earth could there be...
Woah. And there is was.
I OPENED THE GATE AND WALKED THROUGH INTO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLD.
The church, though roofless and open to the skies, still retained all its exterior walls. It felt like something truly magical had happened here. The faded grandeur of the church windows and buttresses was breathtaking; each detail of the light stone structure draped in greenery and flowers. I love shooting in churches, of course I do; they are often stunning buildings with heaps of gorgeous detail. But not many photographers (when being honest) love the lack of light; churches can be austere and dark to work in.
But here I was, enjoying all the wonderful architectural presence of a church, with ALL the light pouring in AND all the greenery;
BUTTERFLIES, BIRDS AND BEES FLEW QUIETLY AROUND THE FLOWERS AND CLIMBERS;
even the patina of the ageing stone was picturesque. It was an outdoor space with the ceremonial feel of a church. I loved it.
We'll be hearing from this awesome couple really soon, as their wedding is within the next two weeks! Their Nearly-Wed Q&A will instead be a Newly-Wed Q&A, but you'll be hearing from them nonetheless.
Thanks for a wonderful morning in the church ruins guys. I cannot wait to get photographically stuck in your London wedding. Your venues are just incredible! Let's do it!
