WELCOME TO THE WORLD... HEIDI (BABY SHOOT)
THOUGHT I’D CHECK IN WITH A LITTLE BONUS FAMILY SESSION, TO BREAK UP ALL THE MATRIMONIAL MAGIC I ‘VE BEEN POSTING THIS WEDDING SEASON. AND THIS GORGEOUS FAMILY INVITED ME BACK AFTER THEIR BUMP SHOOT, TO PHOTOGRAPH THEIR LITTLE HEARTBREAKER, HEIDI. PLUS, MOTHER KATY OFFERS SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO PREP FOR A SESSION LIKE THIS, AND WHY WE SHOULD ALL BE ENJOYING THEM.
Important Note- Any unauthorised use of these images is in breach of copyright. Should any blogs or suppliers wish to share these photos, please contact the photographer directly at gemma@thewardettestudio.com.
I did a bump shoot with these guys, and it feels like only last month. Somehow, they’ve since had this gorgeous little lady and even grown her for 3 whole months. Where did the time go?!
This is a little bonus mid-week post, so I don’t want to over-load you with text and chat. But know this… if you are having your first child, second child, tenth child, or perhaps you know it’ll be your last baby, and you dream of having photos of your bump, and then of your baby- DO IT. If you’ve got a photographer who you feel really comfortable with, and whose work you love, it’s a no brainer.
BUT BOTH THOSE THINGS NEED TO BE AN ABSOLUTE ABUNDANCE FOR THE EXPERIENCE TO FEEL NATURAL, AND FOR THE RESULTS TO SING.
I thought a few words from Mama Katy here, might help in the choosing/booking and prepping for a baby session:
How did you prepare? And do you have any tips?
Chose some outfits and washed my hair, chose some pretty toys and props. Tips...don’t worry about getting baby to a point of being well rested/fed/whatever as a good photographer will work round it-better to just think of your baby and priorities her needs, photos will fall into place easily if you and baby are happy.
Was it worth booking a pro to take the shots?
Totally and utterly worth it for the photos-I loved the experience, the photos are almost a by product to having a lovely morning with your baby and other half...like a reminder of having a great day. Plus they will stay with us forever and capture her in such a precious moment in time.
I am blessed with a wonderful family background, and a close family of my own. Maybe it unsurprising then, that I love family. I love the way every family is so very different from the next. I love the world they build within their home; I love the connections and chemistries between each and every member. And this love, and this emotional intelligence, is a huge part of how I work during these sessions. Especially when the children are a little older than Heidi here, or when there are siblings.
When I enter into someone’s home, I feel respectful but at the same time, welcomed and warm. I need to know how to walk this line, so that I can successfully blend into their daily life and get real honest photos.
So yes, you will find me on the floor with the dog; you’ll find yourself handing me the baby for chats while you change; I’ll be running through the woods with the kids playing games, or climbing trees; I’ll be popping the kettle on when you need an energising cuppa, and we’ll all be laughing and yawning by the time we are done. It is so important I keep doing this work alongside the weddings.
BECAUSE, ULTIMATELY, AFTER THE WEDDING DAY, OR PERHAPS EVEN WITHOUT ONE, THIS IS WHAT IT’S REALLY ALL ABOUT.
Sending love to every parent and family unit, however you are made up; you are winning just by loving one another.
Oops. I did too much chat and text didn’t I? I lied. Bit like when I say “last shot, promise”. Yeah yeah, Gem, of course it is…
Sending love, fists bumps and hugs to Tibor, Katy, Heidi and pup 2na. You’re all bloody awesome :)
