CITY CHIC & ALL THINGS SWEET (LONDON WEDDING)
WITH EVERYTHING FROM TOWN HALL ARCHITECTURE, TO AN OLD CITY ALLEYWAY, TO NEON SIGNS; THIS WEEK'S WEDDING IS ABOUT AS 'CITY' AS THEY COME. PAUL & SONJA WERE THE SWEETEST COUPLE, WITH THE COOLEST PLANS. EVERYTHING FROM THEIR CEREMONIAL SPACE TO THEIR RECEPTION VENUE HIT THE SPOT, AND PROVIDED ME WITH SOME CLASSIC CITY BACKDROPS. THE RAIN AND THE COLD DID NOTHING TO STOP US EITHER!

After a gorgeous autumnal couple shoot, these two felt so much more comfortable with me and my camera. We had such an awesome afternoon that day, that by the time the wedding came around, I couldn't wait to get their wedding in my camera! Everything was just as informal but considered as I expected it to be. It felt like
IT WAS MORE ABOUT THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY, AND THE THINGS THEY BOTH LOVE,
than extravagant planning or styling. Their table plan, for example, was based on the gigs they had both loved the most; and what a flawless list it was:
STEVIE WONDER, HOZIER, BEN HARPER, THE STROKES, AND MORE.
It's all too easy with a London wedding, to work over-time to make it feel 'street-cool' and 'urban'. And that's absolutely fine with the right couple and the right styling, but this wedding was different. I didn't want it to be so try-hard.
THE SETTINGS, WHICH WERE SO LONDON, WERE CHIC AND CLASSIC.
Take a look at Islington Town Hall's main space, for example; huge arched ceiling, dark wood seating and thrones, with red leather upholstery and red carpets. I wanted these shots to feel classic and romantic, in a city setting.
Then there was my panic to find somewhere to shoot in Farringdon, once we were at the reception. It was super windy and rainy, and I had no idea where to hide Paul and Sonja for a few couple shots.
THANK GOD FOR OLD LONDON, AND IT'S QUIRKY BACK STREETS.
We found a little alleyway, with limited light, but tonnes of shelter and character.
I could go on and on about this wedding, but I'd rather let the photos speak for themselves. Huge thanks go these guys, who booked me last minute and were so bowled over when I fitted them in. It took a 5 hour long, 4am train after a wedding up north, to get to them, but it was entirely worth it. I also got to shoot another wedding with my super talented other half Hobo Chic playing the party. Hell yeah!
Congratulations on tying the knot guys, and thank you so much for having us both be part of your awesome day.
